Californians Against SCA 5: Signature Collection Campaign

Recently, the California State Senate has approved Senate Constitution Amendment No. 5 (SCA 5), which allows the State of California to deny an individual’s or group's right to public education on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin.  This Amendment is simply unconstitutional because it violates the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution.

We, the undersigned civil rights organizations, believe that the most effective way to stop SCA5 is to influence the lawmakers who have the right to vote in the California State Assembly, especially those in the Democratic Party.

Among the many ways of communications, such as emails, phone calls, letters, and face-to-face meetings, the last method is the most formal and direct way to let our voices be heard by the lawmakers. However, it is unrealistic for each one of us to meet with these lawmakers.

In view of the above, we have decided to launch a joint campaign to collect signatures from California residents who are concerned with this unconstitutional amendment.  With signatures on hand, our volunteers will meet with the lawmakers and request them to vote down SCA 5 in the California State Assembly.

The information we would like to collect from you includes:

1. The  Assembly District No. in which you reside

(if you do not know this info, u may either ignore it, or find it on this website http://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/)

2. Full name (in print)

3. Address (street, city and zip code)

4. Email

5. Signature

6. It would be great if you could give your own good reasons for your opposition to SCA 5. Or, simply say, "Please vote NO to SCA 5!"

Please use a piece of white paper to write down the above information or download the template. You may include the information for one person or multiple persons. If the latter, please write down the information for each person.

Please take a photo of or scan your signature information and send it to us through email Vote.down.SCA5@gmail.com.

We will sort the signatures according to the State Assembly districts, and present them to the corresponding Assembly members and demand them to veto SCA 5 in the Assembly.

We need signatures from everyone who objects to SCA 5! We strongly encourage all of you to go out and talk to your friends about SCA 5 and collect as many signatures as possible.  Whether your friends are Asians, Whites, Hispanics, Africans, or any ethnic groups, it does not matter.  Together, we will succeed in this campaign!
